Alien - Costumes

  • Supposed to be 'truckers in space' so can wear what they want
  • Always have logo of corporation which gives negative, Big Brother connotations
  • Ash (Science Officer - Android) appears cleanest, giving away role. Personalisation to hide fact. Contrast with even the most proper of the crew suggests an outsider, doesn't belong.
  • Brett and Parker (Labour) have most personalisation - Hawaiian shirt and baseball cap for Brett and vest + headband for Parker. Shows they care least about appearances
  • Kane and Lambert (Executive Officer + Navigator) appears more formal and put together due to their senior position and professionalism
  • Dallas (Captain) wears a leather jacket - less casual but still personal and connotes importance (WW2 pilot connotations - possible fighter or tough). Obviously frayed and used, personal
  • Ripley (Officer) wears more regulation clothes - looks more work-like. Connotes professionalism of character, career oriented? Also puts her apart from Brett and Parker who she dislikes. Clothes become more disorganised as film goes on due to surviving, but also shows loss of faith in company. Film finishes with her wearing little, almost like rebirth.
